GRAHAM COUNTY – The Graham County Sheriff’s Office is still looking for Charles William Dankworth, 38, regarding a pellet gun shooting that required medical attention to the victim.

Dankworth was previously arraigned on March 15 regarding charges of unlawful use of means of transportation and criminal damage that occurred in December 2020.

According to a Graham County Sheriff’s Office report, deputies were dispatched at about 8:17 p.m. on March 30 to a residence on Pontiac Drive regarding the shooting.

Upon arrival, a neighbor advised that Dankworth had allegedly arrived at the victim’s residence and accused him of hiding Dankworth’s girlfriend. The neighbor said the victim told him Dankworth had shot him in his abdomen with a pellet gun. The victim had an entry wound to his abdomen and had bled onto his shirt and pants. The victim then left for another friend’s residence and was taken to Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center for treatment.

A search of the area yielded a black plastic pellet gun with a can of .177 caliber pellets nearby. The scene also showed blood evidence.

A deputy questioned the victim at the hospital, who advised that Dankworth had pounded on his door looking for a woman the victim said he didn’t even know. The victim advised he told Dankworth to leave and pushed him off his steps. According to the Sheriff’s Office report, Dankworth then allegedly retrieved the pellet gun and shot the victim from roughly 10 feet away.

The deputy was shown the victim’s wound, which was described as being a puncture wound about ¼-inch in size roughly six inches above his waistline. The deputy also retrieved the victims’ bloody clothes as evidence.

Deputies were unable to locate Dankworth, who was still at large as of Monday morning. He is wanted for questioning and a possible charge of aggravated assault.
