PIMA – The regularly-scheduled Pima Town Council meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 3, has been canceled due to an outbreak of COVID-19 among a couple of the Town Hall staff.

Pima Mayor C.B. Fletcher said there wasn’t any pressing business to attend to, so they decided to cancel November’s meeting out of an abundance of caution and have its next meeting in December. If something comes up before then, the town can call a special meeting later this month.

Town Hall has been closed due to the virus and is scheduled to reopen Nov. 9, however it might open later this week, according to Fletcher. He added that there are numbers to call for those who need assistance and that the town is still there to serve those who require it.

“If you need anything, you can call and we’ll open up and do whatever we need to accommodate the people,” Fletcher said.

The outbreak also prompted the town to cancel its planned Trunk-or-Treat on Halloween. However, enterprising residents in the Riverback subdivision took it upon themselves to host the event with the mayor’s blessing and closed down 200 North from 1240 West to 1300 West for the event.

Throngs of children hit up the event and nearby residences, causing the candy supply to be quickly depleted.

The Fright Night at the Eastern Arizona Museum also went as scheduled, and event organizer Riley Woods reported that it made about $8,000 for the museum between sponsors, ticket sales ($5 per person) and after-hours haunted house tours.

“It’s such a beautiful afternoon,” Fletcher said. “I’m sitting out on my porch watching kids and dogs run and play. It’s a great place to live.”
