Pima Police Sgt. Shotwell deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot

PIMA – Pima Police Sgt. Sandra Joy Shotwell, 53, was declared deceased Thursday morning from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Shotwell, who lived off 100 West behind the Pima Police Department, was discovered by a Pima Police officer, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Upon the discovery, the area was cordoned off and the Arizona Department of Public Safety was called in to perform the investigation due to the conflict of interest with the Pima Police Department.

“At this time, my only thoughts are with her friends and family,” said Pima Town Manager Sean Lewis.

Shotwell joined the Pima Police Department in November 2014 and previously was with the Greenlee County Sheriff’s Office from 2008 – 2014.

The DPS investigation into the death is ongoing.
