CLIFTON – A man reportedly fleeing law enforcement in Greenlee County for charges of sexual conduct with a minor was apprehended by the Pima Police on Wednesday and is now back in Clifton.

Jose Gaston Baca, a man in his early 30s, was arrested and booked into the Greenlee County Jail on “several” charges of sexual conduct with a minor, according to Clifton Police Chief Omar Negrete.

The investigation into Baca began Wednesday morning when the victim’s mother reported the allegations to Clifton Police. At that time, Chief Negrete said authorities were advised Baca was attempting to leave town, so they put a BOLO out on his maroon Chrysler with Sonora Mexico license plates.

At about 11:22 a.m., a Pima Police officer spotted the suspect vehicle westbound on U.S. Highway 70 just west of town. The officer received probable cause to stop the car, and Baca was taken into custody and later transferred into the custody of the Clifton Police Department, which booked him into jail.
