FLAGSTAFF – The Pima Roughriders (6-0) continued their winning ways in the quarterfinals of the Pepsi Holiday Tournament in Flagstaff on Friday afternoon with a 68-28 shellacking of Paradise Honors.
Pima previously beat the 3A Winslow Bulldogs 55-44 to open the tournament on Thursday night and then dispatched the 6A Alhambra Lions 52-18 on Friday morning.
The Roughriders will now take on the unbeaten 3A Tuba City Warriors (5-0) on Saturday at 11 a.m. The winner will play in the tournament championship game on Saturday at 5 p.m.
The other semifinal game matches up 4A Flagstaff with 2A Sedona Red Rock, which came in second in the state championship to Pima last year.
In the game with Paradise Honors, Aubrie Sherwood went off in the second quarter, scoring 12 of her game-high 19 points. Ashlynn Chlarson and Saydee Allred also paced the Roughriders in the first half and finished with 16 and 13 points, respectively.
Other Roughriders who scored included Ashlie Sherwood with 6; Maya Mattice with 5; Jayci McClain with 4, and Kylie Mattice, Samantha Pippo, and Maddie Gann all had 2 points each.
