Pedestrian killed in Highway 70 collision

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a motor vehicle while crossing U.S. Highway 70 on Thursday night.

SAFFORD – A pedestrian who was struck while apparently crossing U.S. Highway 70 Thursday night was later pronounced deceased at Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center.

According to a release from the Safford Police Department, the incident occurred shortly after 8 p.m. in the 1200 Block of W. U.S. Highway 70, which is near 11th Avenue. There is no crosswalk in that area but it is frequently used by those staying on the north side of the highway to cross to stores and amenities on the south side. 

The male victim was staying in a local motel. His name has not been released pending notification of his next of kin.

The victim was transported to MGRMC by paramedics by Lifeline Ambulance. No other information regarding the motor vehicle or driver was released at this time. The incident remains under investigation by the Safford Police Department.
