DPS investigating whether driver impairment contributed to crash

DUNCAN – An early morning single-vehicle crash outside of Duncan on March 9 left a Morenci man deceased and the driver in a Tucson hospital.

The crash occurred at about 2:28 a.m. when a northbound Chevrolet truck lost control and went off Highway 75, according to DPS Media Relations Specialist Bart Graves. Driver impairment has not been ruled out as the cause of the collision. 

According to Graves, the truck went off an embankment, rolled over and collided with another embankment before finally coming to rest on its roof. 

Passenger John Christopher Wile, 45, of Morenci, was found deceased at the scene.

The driver was taken to Banner – University Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. DPS has not yet released the name of the driver.

The case is still under investigation.
