Robert Shirley passed away in the late hours of Nov. 21, 2021, in Tucson, Arizona. Robert was born on Friday, July 31, 1953, in Safford, Arizona to Leonard and Dorothy Priest Shirley. As a child growing up in Safford, he liked to be outside doing outdoor activities.
He graduated from Safford High School and afterward enlisted in the United States Army. He later became a Correctional Officer and advanced to become a COIII Department of Corrections Counselor.
Robert married Gloria Jean Soto and together they had a son, Clinton Shirley, and two step-sons, Scott and Troy Soto. He was a loving father and grandfather who will be missed very much by all who know and loved him.
Robert leaves behind his son, Clinton Shirley; daughter-in-law, Devona Shirley; his grandchildren, Selena Gomez, Angelique Gomez, and David Gomes, Jr., and his great-grandchildren, Houston Gomez, Elliot Gomez, Stephen Delgado Jr., Scott Soto, Ashley Soto, Christopher Soto, Brittany Soto, Anthony Soto, Troy Soto, Mary Soto, Briseis Trujillo, Isabel Trujillo, Alexis Soto, Eva Rose Soto, and Troy’s wife, Marsella Soto.
A viewing will be from 5 until 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 2, at McDougal’s Caldwell Funeral Chapel.
