Obituary for Luis Carlos Lopez Jr.

Luis Carlos Lopez, Jr. was born in Safford on April 9, 1997, to Jennifer and Carlos Lopez.  He passed away Oct. 20, at the age of 21.  Luis had three sisters; Melissa, Adrienne, and Roxanne Lopez.

Luis graduated from Safford High School in 2015, where he was active in athletics.  He loved to be outdoors and enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing.  Luis enjoyed playing baseball and wrestling. One of the highlights of his life was the birth of his daughter, Kaylee Madison Johnson, whom he truly loved.

Luis will be remembered for his fun-loving nature.  He had a big heart and helped anyone he could.  He would always lighten the mood wherever he was and could keep you smiling and laughing for hours.  He was a true goofball.

He is survived by his daughter, Kaylee Johnson; his parents, Jennifer and Carlos Lopez; his sisters, Melissa (Ruben) Chavez, Adrienne Lopez, and Roxanne Lopez; his nephew, Alijah Chavez; his niece, Dani Lopez; his Grandparents, Bobbie Layton, Enrique and Olga Lopez; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins who will miss him dearly.

Luis was preceded in death by his Grandfather, Tony Layton, and Grandmother, Minnie Lopez.

A viewing will be held Tuesday morning, Oct. 30, at McDougal’s Caldwell Funeral Chapel beginning at 9 a.m. The Rosary is being led at 11 a.m., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 12 p.m., with Rev. Father Nicodemus Shaghel, VC as Celebrant at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.  Interment will follow in the Safford Cemetery.
