Obituary for Kathryn Woods

Kathryn Leavirne Woods, resident of Myrtle Creek Oregon for past 42 years, passed away Feb. 1, in Roseburg, Oregon, at the age of 83. Kathryn was born April 19, 1935, in Globe, to John Adair Gibson and Idell Mack Gibson, with brothers John, Jerry, and Henry Gibson, and sisters Marsha Lupo and Nada Sullivan.

“Kathy” married William Levi Woods, on April 2, 1955, in Reserve, New Mexico. Bill and Kathy were blessed with eight children; sons Russell, William, and John, and daughters Janet, Lea, Lisa, Colleen, and Andrea.  After moving around Arizona a bit, the family settled in Central. In 1976, they moved to Myrtle Creek, where she resided until her passing.

For the past 11 years, she has enjoyed coming back to Arizona for a few months each winter.

Kathy was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many areas. She was a loving, giving, kind woman, an excellent seamstress, a good cook and painted many beautiful pieces of art after teaching herself how to paint.

She is survived by her son, Russell Woods (Jonnet), and daughters Lea Martin (Randy), Lisa Smith (Clair), Colleen Betza (John), and Andrea Burgess (Jason); her brother, John Gibson, and sisters Marsha Lupo and Nada Sullivan; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Kathy was preceded in death by her husband William Levi Woods, two sons; Billy and John; daughter Janet’ brothers Jerry and Henry, and grandson Jason Tyrel (JT) Woods.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 9, at 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel in Myrtle Creek, Oregon.

The graveside service and burial will be in Pima Cemetery at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16.
