Obituary for Juan Jesus Gonzalez

Juan Jesus Gonzalez, 89, of Chandler, passed away Dec. 6, 2018 in Mesa. He was born May 21, 1929, in Morenci, to Francisco and Petra Alvarez Gonzalez.

Juan attended schools in Morenci, graduating from Morenci High School as valedictorian and then went on to college graduating in 1949. He began working for Phelps Dodge as an accountant, where he stayed until retiring from Freeport McMoran.

Even though his marriage ended in divorce, Juan was blessed by the births of his two daughters, Elizabeth and Diana. He was a member of the Lions Club and gladly served as president. He was always putting others first and willing to serve. He had a wonderful sense of humor and cared about others. He never failed to let those he cared for know how much he loved and appreciated them. Juan treated everyone with kindness and respect.

Juan is survived by his loving daughter, Elizabeth Gonzalez Raboin; six grandchildren, Dixie, Feliz, and Maya Sumpter, Christopher Gonzalez, Adam Price, and Season Mosby; and one great-grandchild, Julian.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francisco and Petra Gonzalez; and his loving daughter, Diana Sumpter.

The family wished donations be made to St. Rose of Lima and St. Mary’s Food Bank.

A Rosary will be led Friday, Jan. 18, at 9:30 a.m., followed by the Memorial Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, with Father Nicodemus Shaghel, VC as Celebrant.
