Obituary for James ‘Greg’ Johns

James “Greg” Johns, of Duncan, passed away Jan. 23, at his home. Greg was born Oct. 6, 1965, in Morenci, to James Gary Johns and Elizabeth “Joan” Gentry Johns and was soon followed by his brother, Rick Johns.

Greg attended schools in the Duncan area and graduated from Duncan High School in 1983. He began working at the Morenci Mine as a heavy equipment operator and married Terry Farwell. The couple was blessed with twin boys, Jared and Jake Johns. After that marriage ended, Greg met and married Janae Nichols and to that union came Cheyenne Elizabeth Johns.

Greg loved working with and riding his horses, hunting, and four-wheeling. He loved being outdoors and was a true Cowboy with a heart of gold.

He is survived by his son, Jared J. Johns, and his daughter, Cheyanne E. Johns Green; his loving mother, Elizabeth “Joan” Johns; his brother, Rick Johns; and his grandsons, Wesley Green and Jhett Johns.

Greg is preceded in death by his son, Jake Ray Johns; and his father, James Gary Johns.

A visitation will be held Monday, Jan. 28, beginning at 12 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Duncan Stake Center. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m., with Pres. Lamar Taylor officiating.  Interment is in the Virden Cemetery in Virden, New Mexico.
