Obituary for Hector Garcia

Hector García, 57, passed away on July 4, 2022. Hector was born to José and Carmen García, on Dec. 4, 1964, in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He graduated from Mayfield High, then he went to Ricks College in Idaho; he later received his accounting degree from New Mexico State University. He proudly served a mission for the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Mexico City. For 20+years, he worked for Freeport McMoran (previously Phelps Dodge), first in El Paso, Texas, and most recently in Safford, Arizona.

Hector was the life of the party with his never-ending jokes, his ongoing pranks, and his contagious smile and laughter. We depended on him to make us laugh till we cried.  Hector loved Star Wars, the Seattle Seahawks, Buffalo Wild Wings, La Pila in Juarez, Nellie’s salsa, and jokes that start with, “Did you hear the one about…?” He played the piano, being the only one of five kids that mastered our mom’s piano lessons.

He was the kindest and most unselfish man you would ever meet. He made friends with everyone.

He married Delores Adams and they had two children, Miguel and Alejandra. Miguel also passed away with Hector.

Hector and Delores later divorced but remained good friends. Family meant the world to him and he was an incredible father/man.

Hector is survived by his daughter, Alejandra; his mother, Carmen, and four siblings, Joe Hugo, of Las Cruces, Lisa (Mark), of Honeyville, Utah, Carlos, of Brush Prairie, Washington, and Nefi (Kathy), of Las Vegas, Nevada. He is also survived by many cousins, aunts, uncles, nephews, and nieces who adored him and always wanted to hang out with him. He was preceded in death by his dad, José.

There are no words for the heartache we are dealing with, so we ask for your continued love and prayers. May our grief be transformed into compassion and unconditional love. We take comfort in knowing we will see them again.

One of Hector’s loves was reading to children. He did it every week for several years in El Paso. A Go Fund Me https://gofund.me/4d1dffb1 will accept donations and the money will be donated to Ramona Elementary for their reading program.
