Obituary for Damaris Elizabeth Hoisington

Damaris Elizabeth Hoisington, M.D., of Safford, unexpectedly entered into eternal rest on Oct. 15, 2020, in Tucson, after a brief illness.  Damaris was born on July 24, 1971, in Tepic, Mexico the sixth of seven children born to Silvestre Tapia and Francisca Cabello Tapia. Her siblings include Joel, Judy, Silvia, Mireya, Gloria, and Mayra.

Damaris was a very active person, always helping others when she could.  She brought sunshine into the lives of all who knew her.  On March 11, 1995, Damaris married Thomas C. “Cory” Hoisington in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity.  The couple was later blessed with two children, Sylvia Francesca “Francis” and Samuel Thomas “Sam”.

Damaris enjoyed dancing, playing volleyball, and spending time with her family.  She was overjoyed at finally completing her medical schooling and looking forward to doing her clinicals so that she could begin practicing medicine as a Doctor.

She never met a stranger, was so full of love for everyone, and was a true disciple of Christ.  She was selfless, loving, and Christlike. One of her favorite sayings was “Well done my good and faithful servant”, and she truly tried to live her life that way.  She was known to say “Con dios, quién puede estar en contra” and “As for me and my house, we serve the Lord.”

Damaris leaves behind her beloved husband, Cory Hoisington; her daughter, Francis, and her son, Sam Hoisington; her father, Silvestre Tapia; her in-laws, S. Kerry and Deb Hoisington; her siblings, Joel (Maria) Tapia, Judy (Marco) Nava, Mireya Tapia, Silvia Tapia, and Gloria (Eric) Nelson.

She was preceded in death by her beautiful and beloved mother, Francisca Tapia Cabello, and her youngest sister, Mayra Tapia.

There will be a viewing for Damaris on Wednesday, Oct. 21, from 5 until 8 p.m. at the McDougal’s Caldwell Funeral Chapel and again on Thursday morning, Oct. 22, beginning at 9 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Safford Stake Center, with the funeral service at 10 a.m.  Interment will be in the Central Cemetery following services.
