Obituary for Amelia R. Barquin

Amelia R. Barquin formerly of Safford, passed away in Tucson, on May 3, 2019. She was born Dec. 14, 1935, in Safford to Antonio “George” Ruiz and Consuelo Pacheco Ruiz joining her siblings; Jean, George, and Ernie.

On Nov. 22, 1952, Amelia married the love of her life, Alfredo “Fredo” Barquin, in Safford. The young couple began their lives in Safford, where they were blessed with their first child, Fred, they then moved to Globe, then on to Phoenix, where the rest of the children were born; Barbara, Jim, and Ernie.

Amelia loved to cook and enjoyed sharing the food with family and friends. Aside from raising her family, she also served her Catholic community by being a CCD teacher and a member of the Altar Rosary Society. On June 2, 2013, her beloved husband, Alfredo, passed away after 61 years of marriage, so Amelia surrounded herself with her family and friends, serving them whenever possible. She was very soft-spoken, kind and loving, which blessed the lives of those around her.

Amelia is survived by her children, Fred (Maria) Barquin, Barbara (Mario) Enriquez, Jim (Lisa) Barquin, and Ernie (Kim) Barquin; her brother, Ernie (Barbara) Ruiz; 11 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Alfredo Barquin; her parents, Antonio and Consuelo Ruiz; her sister, Jean Lopez; her brother, George Ruiz; and her great-granddaughter, Nevaeh Enriquez.

Services will be held Friday, May 10, beginning with a viewing at 9 a.m., Rosary at 10 a.m., and Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Interment will immediately follow Mass at the Lebanon Cemetery.
