COCHISE COUNTY – A man who reportedly was shooting at vehicles traveling on Highway 191 on Monday afternoon while naked was apprehended by police and taken to a hospital for evaluation.

The incident reportedly took place around mile marker 88 of U.S. Highway 191, which is actually in Cochise County, just north of Interstate 10.

A motorist with a disabled vehicle called police at about 1:32 p.m. and said a man in his 30’s armed with a semi-automatic handgun was shooting erratically. The man appeared to be hallucinating, according to the caller, and was yelling at a non-existent person. The caller advised the man was shooting all around his white Dodge truck that was parked in an empty lot on the side of the highway.

Deputies from the Graham County Sheriff’s Office and Cochise County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene, and the suspect was taken into custody by the Willcox Police Department without any injury, according to DPS Media Relations Specialist Bart Graves.

The suspect was taken to Northern Cochise Community Hospital for evaluation.
