Motorhome towing car burns on Highway 191

GRAHAM COUNTY – A motorhome towing a car along U.S. Highway 191 south of Safford became engulfed in flames Friday morning. 

The fire was reported at about 11:30 a.m. and occurred near milepost 96, which is south of Safford between State Route 266 and I-10.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the fire started in the car that was being towed. The cause is unknown.  

The Safford Fire Department traveled roughly 25 miles to the scene, doused the fire, and kept it to the vehicles. Safford Fire Chief Clark Bingham advised there were no injuries to the occupants of the motorhome or firefighters. 

The highway was closed for a short time while first responders dealt with the blaze, and it was completely reopened by 12:41 p.m., according to the DPS.
