SAFFORD – A mother and daughter shoplifting team were caught attempting to steal nearly $200 worth of clothing items from Walmart earlier this month.

Viola Andazola and Judy Sam were both given citations for shoplifting and released from the store on March 6.

According to a Safford Police report, an asset protection associate observed Andazola hand clothing from her cart over to Sam, who then attempted to conceal the clothing underneath her jacket.

After passing through the point-of-sale without purchasing the clothing, the women were contacted by an asset protection employee and detained.

According to the women’s alleged statements to police, Andazola admitted to handing the items to Sam and that she was aware Sam was trying to steal them. Sam allegedly admitted to attempting to steal the items but blamed her actions, in part, on being off of her psychiatric medications.

After issuing both women a citation for shoplifting they were trespassed from the store and were released.
