SAN TAN VALLEY – The Morenci Wrestling team captured the Division IV State Championship in commanding fashion on Wednesday by recording a state-record 301 points. 

Five wrestlers earned individual state championships; freshman Breck Williams defeated Yuma Catholic’s Mickey Doerr to win the 106-pound division; sophomore Soloman Lucero defeated Seton Catholic’s Lucas Eviston to with the 120-pound division; senior Marcus Morales defeated Yuma Catholic’s Jacob Navarro in the 126-pound division; junior Cody Torres pinned Willcox’s Oren Allsup in the 152-pound division, and sophomore Trez Rodriguez defeated Parker’s Abraham Silva in the 220-pound division. 

In addition to Morenci taking the team state title, Thatcher finished in fourth place with 137.5 points, with Brayden Oliver and Jesse Green finishing as individual runner-ups.
