Morenci hosts 3-way swim meet on Thursday

MORENCI – The race to beat the clock is ongoing as the Wildcats competed in two meets last week, and host their second meet on Thursday, Oct. 3. The Renee Stills-coached Morenci swim team hosts a 3-way meet with Coolidge and Gilbert San Tan Charter on Thursday, Oct. 3.

To date, the Wildcats have competed in Maricopa (Sept. 5), Florence (Sept. 12), Canyon del Oro (Sept. 14), and Tucson Palo Verde Magnet (Sept. 19) before their meet on Sept. 26, and the 2-day Higley Williams Field Knight’s Invitational on Sept. 26-27, before hosting Coolidge and Gilbert San Tan Charter on Oct. 3.

Morenci visits Globe on Oct. 8, Chandler on Oct. 12, and Paradise Valley Phoenix Country Day School on Oct. 15 to complete its regular season. The state meet is at Mesa’s Skyline Aquatic Center, 845 South Crimson Road on Nov. 8-9.

Following the Gilbert Williams Field state qualifying meet on Sept. 27, senior Omar Torres had times of 29.09 (50 Free) and 1:34.67 (100 Breast); senior Pedro Young Jr. 1:03.95 (100 Fly) and 2:08.67 (200 Free); junior Maxwell Clancy 1:22.22 (100 Back) and 2:27.70 (200 Free); freshman Christian Kudadiri 1:02.30 (100 Free); junior Bryce McGahee 1:21.06 (100 free); senior James Anderson 1:22.94 (100 Free); and freshman Caleb Hancock 30.28 (50 Free) and 1:18.74 (100 Back).

Quicker times were posted in the relays, 1:48.10 (200 freestyle relay) by Young, Hancock, Torres, and Kudadiri along with 2:18.77 (200 medley relay). The times were 1:57.78 (200 FR) and 2:20.35 (200 MR) in Tucson (Sept. 14).

In Morenci, Anderson clocked in with 3:59.59 (200 Free); Clancy 1:12.35 (100 Free) and 2:58.22 (200 Free); Goodman 33.38 (50 Free) and 8:21.94 (500 Free); Hancock 1:28.06 (100 Back) and 3:05.121 (200 IM); Kudadiri 1:11.91 (100 Free) and 3:05.12 (200 IM); McGahee 36.44 (50 Free) and 1:50.69 (100 Breast); and Torres 1:49.62 (100 Breast) and 1:56.97 (100 Fly).

The Torres, Clancy, McGahee, and Young 200 FR had 2:07.43 and the 400 FR (5:14.28).

Florence senior Anders Hansen had 1:09.97 (100 Fly) and 1:19.44 (100 Back); senior Ryder Hatch 6:03.94 (500 Free); senior Vincent Valdez 1:34.46 (100 Breast); junior Aidan McBride 1:08.31 (100 Free) and 1:26.81 (100 Back); junior Johnathan Porter 1:17.69 (100 Free) and 1:42.94 (100 Breast); junior Tristan Roberts 1:05.88 (100 Free); sophomore Porter Hansen 1:25.63 (100 Fly); and freshman Cal Hansen 1:40.54 (100 Back).

The Anders Hansen, Roberts, McBride, and Hatch foursome had 1:53.28 (200 FR) while the quartet of Porter Hansen, Porter, Cal Hansen, and Valdez had 5:08.13 (400 FR).

Senior Ciara Crandall had a 38.88 (50 Free) and 1:31.48 (100 Free); junior Isabell Leyba 1:09.38 (100 Fly) and 1:16.72 (100 Breast); junior Emily Lewis 1:21.32 (100 Back) and 6:37.80 (500 Free); sophomore Giselle Nevarez 1:11.56 (100 Free), bettered her 100 Back of 1:25.89 (Sept. 14) with 1:21.32, and 2:51.58(200 IM); and freshman Avery Wiltbank 1:22.16 (100 Back) in Gilbert.

The 400 freestyle relay of Nevarez, Leyba, Crandall, and Martinez clocked in with 5:27.02.

In Morenci, Crandall posted times of 44.53 (50 Free) and 10:28.09 (500 Free); Lewis 33.12 (50 Free) and 1:42.25 (100 Breast); Leyba 1:25.19 (100 Back) and 2:54.66 (200 IM); Martinez 1:44.38 (100 Free) and 2:04.53 (100 Breast); Nevarez 7:42.91 (500 Free), and Wiltbank 1:52.70 (100 Fly) and 3:36.34 (200 IM).

The Hansen, Hall, Gameros, and Hatch 200 MR along with the Genevieve Winn, Garner, Ruiz, and Roberts 400 FR clocked in at 2:22.31 and 6:28.43, respectively.
