GRAHAM COUNTY – A mobile home fire destroyed a residence and burned several vehicles and a travel trailer on the property south of Safford on Monday.
Emergency services were dispatched regarding the fire at about 5:46 p.m. to a residence on Highway 366 just east of U.S. Highway 191. The occupant advised he had been asleep on the couch when the heat from the flames awoke him. He fled the burning residence and ran to a nearby bar to call 911. The man reportedly had minor injuries but declined medical attention.
The mobile home was fully engulfed when first responders arrived. Neighbors in the area described seeing the fire spread into other yards and heard a loud explosion.
According to a Graham County Sheriff’s Office report, the fire destroyed the home as well as two pickup trucks and a sedan that were burned beyond identification. Two 2005 Buicks were also damaged by fire, and a 1999 Nissan Maxima sustained minimal fire damage.
A Safford firefighter advised the Sheriff’s Office that the cause of the fire was unknown.
