Mexican citizen dies after fall from the International Border Barrier

CALEXICO, CALIF. – On Sept. 3, a Border Patrol camera operator observed a migrant, later identified as a male citizen of Mexico, fall from the International Border Barrier approximately one-half mile west of the Calexico, California, Port of Entry.  

Border Patrol Agents (BPAs) responded to the scene and discovered the man sustained an injury to his left leg.  BPAs notified the Calexico Fire Department, which responded to the scene and transported the man to a hospital in El Centro, California.  The man was later transferred to a hospital in San Diego, California.  Medical personnel made efforts to treat his leg, however, on Sept. 7, the man died due to complications stemming from the injury. 

This incident is being reviewed by the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office and CBP’s Office of Professional Responsibility. The DHS Office of Inspector General was also notified of the incident.
