Meet-and-greet Safford Police Chief finalists

SAFFORD – The city of Safford is inviting the public to its Chief of Police Recruitment: Meet & Greet on Thursday, May 18. 

The event will be held at the Safford City/Graham County Library Program Room at 808 S. 7th Ave., starting at 6 p.m. 

The two finalists for the chief of police position are Safford Police Captain Brian Avila and University of Arizona Police Assistant Chief Jason Brei. 

Avila is a hometown product, hailing from Clifton and graduating from Eastern Arizona College with an associate’s degree in Administration of Justice. He received his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Bellevue University in Bellevue, Nebraska. He has 22 years of law enforcement experience and in his spare time serves as a local sports official. 

Brei graduated from Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a Master of Administration in Public Management. He worked as a deputy with the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office prior to joining the UA Police Department and has 26 years of law enforcement experience.
