GRAHAM COUNTY – A Graham County man was last listed as being in critical condition at a Tucson hospital Monday night after being severely burned in a trailer fire.

The injured male was reportedly inside a pull-behind type trailer he was living in at the Red Barn Mobile Home Park at 566 Swift Trail when it caught fire Monday night. The area is about seven miles south of Safford and is just east of Highway 191.

According to Graham County Dispatch, the victim’s face and back were burned and he suffered burns down to his knees.

After being treated at the scene by paramedics, the victim was initially transported to Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center before being airlifted to a Banner hospital burn unit in Tucson, according to Graham County Undersheriff Jeff McCormies.

Safford Fire was dispatched at about 9 p.m. to the residence and arrived at the scene to find the trailer and a Ford Ranger pickup truck engulfed by fire.

According to Safford Fire Chief Clark Bingham, the fire was deemed accidental but is still under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.

Responding parties reported explosions as propane tanks possibly ignited. The trailer and the pickup truck were complete losses, but firefighters kept the blaze from spreading to nearby residences.

There were no reported injuries to firefighters, who spent about two hours working the scene and cleanup, according to Bingham.
