SAFFORD – A man’s son located his father’s stolen trailer after it had been missing for seven years when he noticed it parked in front of a residence off Highway 70.

According to a Graham County Sheriff’s Office report, the victim informed Graham County Dispatch that after his son noticed the trailer, he drove to the residence and identified it as being the one stolen from him seven years ago and said it looked just like it did the day it went missing.

A deputy arrived at the residence where the trailer was parked and ran the license plate. After the license plate on the trailer showed the victim as the registered owner, the deputy questioned the occupants, who allegedly advised they had purchased it roughly three weeks ago from another Safford man.

The deputy then questioned the Safford man about the trailer, and he gave a convoluted story about how he purchased it years ago. The man initially said the trailer couldn’t be the one stolen from the victim because the man said he had it for 10 years, However, he could not answer why the license plate would be registered in the victim’s name while the trailer fit the stolen one’s description as well.

The occupant of the residence advised he didn’t care if he was out the money he spent on the trailer and didn’t wish to pursue the matter further. The information regarding the trailer and how it came to be where it was located was then turned over to the Safford Police Department, which initially investigated the theft.

The trailer itself was returned to the victim.
