SAFFORD – Gary Selvedge was arrested and booked into the Graham County Adult Detention Facility on Jan. 11 on charges of burglary and theft.

Selvedge allegedly entered the victim’s yard and took a propane tank from an outdoor grill. The victim was notified of the crime by a woman who witnessed it, and the victim followed Selvedge and a woman who was with him down 11th Street. The perpetrators were then chased into the Villa Apartments, where officers located them shortly thereafter.

When asked about the burglary and theft, Selvedge initially denied any wrongdoing and said he and the woman he was with were simply out looking for his lost dog. Both Selvedge and the woman were positively identified by the victim and the initial witness, who said she saw McCormick steal the tank and then called the victim and let her know what was happening. The witness then followed the couple down the street and said Selvedge left the propane tank in the 1300 block of 3rd Avenue and continued to flee.

After initially denying any wrongdoing several times, Selvedge allegedly admitted to stealing the propane tanks so the woman he was with could use it for heat. He was then transported to the jail and booked on the above-listed charges without further incident.
