Man fatally shoots self along highway near Fort Thomas

FORT THOMAS – A man apparently succumbed to a self-inflicted gunshot wound after pulling over onto the shoulder of U.S. Highway 70 Saturday afternoon.

The incident occurred just east of Desert Sage Road near Fort Thomas. According to the Graham County Dispatch, authorities were notified of the situation around 4:00 p.m. Witnesses at the scene reported seeing the victim being removed at about 6:35 p.m. and authorities were still directing traffic through the area.

The Graham County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident, but other authorities, including the Arizona Department of Public Transportation, were on scene to assist as needed.

As of 6:40 p.m., ADOT still showed slowing in the immediate area, but traffic was flowing through.

The Sheriff’s Office advised that any other information regarding the incident wouldn’t likely be released until Monday at the earliest.
