SAFFORD – Motorists on U.S. Highway 70 came upon an odd situation the morning of Dec. 10 when several people called authorities regarding a naked man wrapped in a blanket wandering along the roadway.

Officers located the subject, later identified as David Scott, 57, of Tucson, just after 8 a.m. in the parking lot of the Super Wok restaurant at 1275 W. Thatcher Blvd. Scott was found wrapped only in a blanket and had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from him.

The officer placed Scott into his patrol car to keep him warm and learned he was staying at the Budget Inn. Another officer checked on the room and located a local man who has a long history of interactions with police and drug use. The officer noted there was trash all over the inside of the room and that Scott’s clothing appeared to have human feces all over them, so he did not retrieve them.

Scott was taken to the Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center for evaluation and the officer conducted interviews with some of the witnesses.

Jon Johnson File Photo/Gila Herald: The man’s clothing was reportedly found soiled in fecal matter at his motel room.

One witness from a local business said he saw Scott appear to run after a woman and that he opened his blanket to expose himself to her. The employee said the woman is a local woman who often walks along the highway.

Another witness said he saw Scott open his blanket to cars as they drove by. He said Scott then attempted to wrap himself around a light pole with his blanket just before the officer’s arrival.

Several motorists advised they saw Scott and could see his buttocks and realized he wasn’t dressed under the blanket but said Scott did not expose his genitals to them.

After Scott was released from the hospital, he was placed under arrest for disorderly conduct and was booked into the Graham County Adult Detention Facility.
