Local teams move forward in state basketball tournaments

Local basketball teams are burning up the nets as they move forward in their perspective basketball tournaments.

Boys Bracket

1A State Championship

No. 3 Fort Thomas will face a familiar foe as the Apaches take on No. 14 Duncan on Friday, Feb. 16, at 6 p.m. at Prescott High School.

2A State Championship

No. 1 Pima will face No. 16 Arizona Lutheran on Friday, Feb. 16, at 10:30 a.m. at the Prescott Valley Events Center.

No. 9 Thatcher defeated No. 24 Kingman 63-50 in the 2A Conference Play-In Tournament to move on to face No. 8 Many Farms on Friday, Feb. 16, at 1:30 p.m. at the Prescott Valley Events Center.

No. 12 Morenci defeated No. 21 Arizona College Prep 64-46 to move on to face No. 5 Scottsdale Christian on Friday, Feb. 16, at 7:30 p.m. at Yavapai Community College.

If both Pima and Thatcher advance, they will face each other in the quarterfinals. Morenci can have a possible rematch with Pima in the semifinals if both teams advance that far. The two teams previously faced off in the regional championship, which Pima pulled off in the end.

3A State Championship

No. 13 Safford defeated No. 20 Yuma Catholic 93-88 to move on to play No. 4 Valley Christian on Saturday, Feb. 17, at 5:30 p.m. at Poston Butte High School.

Girls Bracket

1A State Championship

No. 1 Fort Thomas will face No. 16 The Gregory School on Friday, Feb. 16, at 7:30 p.m. at Prescott High School.

2A State Championship

No. 10 Pima defeated No. 23 Desert Christian 43-32 to move on to face No. 7 San Carlos on Friday, Feb. 16, at 4:30 p.m. at the Prescott Valley Events Center.

No. 11 Thatcher defeated No. 22 Parker 70-30 to move on to face No. 8 Camp Verde on Friday, Feb. 16, at 6 p.m. at Bradshaw Mountain High School.

3A State Championship

No. 6 Safford will face No. 11 Tanque Verde on Friday, Feb. 16, at 6:30 p.m. at Amphitheater High School in Tucson.
