Local Order of the Eastern Star chapter donates $50,000 for EAC student scholarships

THATCHER – The Order of the Eastern Star, Arcadia Chapter #9, donated $50,000 to the Eastern Arizona College Foundation to create a lasting endowment for local EAC student scholarships. Mollie Carlin and John Ratje, members of the Order, presented the donation to EAC President Todd Haynie and David Udall, executive director of the EAC Foundation.

Mollie Carlin read a prepared statement from Clara Page, secretary for the Order, when the donation was presented. “Our members strive to support community projects and welcome this opportunity to share our blessings. Thank you for all that you are doing to make a difference in the lives of our friends and neighbors in the Gila Valley and beyond.”

Recipients for the Order of the Eastern Star scholarship must:

  *   be female graduates from a Graham, Greenlee, or Cochise County high schools;

  *   possess a grade point average of 2.5 or better;

  *   demonstrate financial need;

  *   exemplify community service and involvement.

“Generous donations like these are the reason most students leave EAC debt-free,” said Udall. “We appreciate the Order of the Eastern Star’s commitment to improving the quality of life in this community through education. They are truly making a difference in the lives of others.”

The Order of the Eastern Star is a social, charitable, and fraternal organization to which both women and men can belong.
