MOUNT GRAHAM – A lightning-caused wildfire in the Marijilda area on the northeastern side of the mountain has been fully contained.
The fire began at about 1:13 p.m. on Wednesday when lightning struck a tree, and crews from the Safford Ranger District responded. The fire’s progress was stopped at 4 p.m.
As of noon on Thursday, the Forest Service reported full 100 percent containment. A Type 6 engine and Type 2 crew remain on site to monitor the interior hot spots for the next couple of days.
All roads and trails in the area remain open for public use.
