THATCHER — Eastern Arizona College’s summer classes begin this week (May 28 – 30) and students still have three days from the first day of class to register. Many course offerings are still available to choose from, including art, chemistry, college math, communication, English, history, precalculus algebra, statistics, swimming, upholstery, yoga, and more.
These courses are taught at an accelerated pace and provide full class credit.
Here’s an example of an in-person class that starts this week:
General Chemistry I (beginning May 28).
A small class with a great deal of personal attention best describes this chemistry course required for students wishing to enter the medical field. Taught by Joel Shelton, associate professor of chemistry at EAC since 1998, this gateway course will give students a solid foundation for more advanced studies. Shelton is known for his corny jokes and his ability to teach complex material in an easy-to-understand manner. Prior to teaching at EAC, he taught at Bakersfield College and has been a chemistry instructor since 1984. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Brigham Young University.
“We meet four hours each day, and split our time between classroom instruction and the lab,” said Shelton. “Although we move along quickly, students receive a lot of personal attention. Many people find summer classes a less intimidating way to learn chemistry.”
Mr. Shelton will also teach General Chemistry II beginning July 1.
