Greenlee County reports second COVID-19 death; Graham County adds 25 new cases

GRAHAM AND GREENLEE COUNTIES – The Greenlee Health Department reported the county’s second death related to COVID-19 on Thursday night. No other details were initially provided.

Greenlee County also listed a new COVID-19 positive test, bringing its total to 40. So, out of all the diagnosed cases, the county’s death rate due to COVID-19 is currently at 5 percent of those who are infected.

The health department has listed 773 total tests given, with 600 negative results, 40 positives, and 133 that are pending. Greenlee County currently has 21 active cases, 17 recovered cases, and now two deaths.

Graham County

On Thursday, the same day Governor Doug Ducey touted that Arizona’s numbers of COVID-19 were trending downward, Graham County reported an additional 25 cases. Graham County is part of about 10 percent of Arizona where there is no mask mandate while in public, however, a number of local stores now require customers to wear one and President Donald J. Trump has now encouraged the use while in public where social distancing is not possible as well.

Out of the 25 new cases, 11 are from Safford, 11 are from the San Carlos Apache Tribe, and three are from Thatcher.

Graham County, which has about 39,000 residents, has tested 2,372 people and now has a total of 353 positives to date, with 285 active cases, 63 recovered cases and five deaths.

The ages of Graham County’s cases include 53 under the age of 20, 135 between 20-44, 52 between 45-54, 39 between 55-64, and 74 who are 65 years old or older.
