Graham County records sixth COVID-19 related death

SAFFORD – Saturday night, the Graham County Department of Health and Human Services reported Graham County’s sixth COVID-19 related death.

The patient was over 65 years old and was a member of the San Carlos Apache Tribe. No further information regarding the death was released.  

Along with the death, the health department announced four new positive COVID-19 tests, with two coming from Safford, and two from the San Carlos Apache Tribe.

To date, the county has administered tests to 2,463 people with a total of 366 positives. The county lists 285 currently active cases, with 75 recovered cases, and six deaths. Graham County has about 39,000 residents.

The ages of Graham County’s cases include 55 under the age of 20, 139 between 20-44, 52 between 45-54, 41 between 55-64, and 79 who are 65 years old or older. As of Saturday, five people were hospitalized at the Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center due to COVID-19.   

Greenlee County

The Greenlee County Health Department announced three new positive COVID-19 tests Saturday. The county also recently announced a new fatality from the virus, bringing its total to two deaths.

To date, Greenlee has administered tests to 874 people, with 626 being negative, 48 positives, and 200 results pending. The county lists 24 active cases, 22 recovered cases, and the two deaths. Greenlee County has about 10,000 residents.

San Carlos Apache Tribe

The San Carlos Apache Tribe Department of Health & Human Services reported 23 new positive tests on Saturday.

To date, the Tribe has administered tests to 3,681 people with 2,813 negative, 387 positives, and 481 results pending.

The Tribe lists 158 currently active cases, with 227 recovered cases, and two deaths.

The area breakdown on the reservation includes Gilson Wash – 51 positive, 30 recovered, 20 active, one death; Peridot – 145 positive, 92 recovered, 52 active, one death; 7-Mile – 68  positive, 51 recovered, 17 active; Bylas – 94 positive, 35 recovered, 59 active; other areas – 29 positive, 19 recovered, 10 active.   

Statewide

For the state, the Arizona Department of Health Services reported 1,973 new cases Saturday to bring the total to 162,014 for the state, as well as 19 new deaths to bring the total fatalities due to COVID-19 to 3,305 in Arizona. The state has about 7.3 million residents.  

Reported positive cases in the various counties include Maricopa County with 108,677, Pima County – 14,963, Yuma County – 10,289, Pinal County – 7,468, Navajo County – 5,078, Apache County – 2,920, Coconino County – 2,858, Mohave County – 2,698, Santa Cruz County – 2,517, Yavapai County – 1,567, Cochise County – 1,388, Gila County – 714, La Paz County – 463, Graham County – 366, Greenlee County – 48.
