Graham County now at 312 COVID-19 cases

Fourteen new positives reported Monday night

SAFFORD – Fourteen new positive COVID-19 tests –nine from Safford, three from Thatcher, one from Pima, and one from the San Carlos Apache Tribe – has increased Graham County’s total for the entirety of the pandemic to 312.

Each positive test in Graham County accounts for a separate patient, and ages of those who have tested positive are 46 under the age of 20, 123 between 20-44, 44 between 45-54, 33 between 55-64, and 66 who are 65 years old or older.

According to the Graham County Department of Health and Human Services (GCDHHS), Graham County currently has 252 active cases, with 55 recovered cases, and five COVID-19 related deaths. GCDHHS criteria list COVID-19 cases as active until patients are symptom-free for 30 days.

Out of a population of about 39,000, the health department has completed tests on 2,312 people with 2,000 negative results. Even with the new positive results, Graham County continues to have a relatively low transmission rate compared to the rest of the state and is the second-lowest county following Greenlee County.

Greenlee County

No new cases were reported Monday. Out of 753 tests performed, Greenlee has had 574 negative and 39 positives, with 140 results pending, according to the Greenlee County Health Department.

Greenlee is reporting 26 currently active cases, with 12 recovered, and one COVID-19 related death.

Morenci will be holding a free COVID-19 drive-through testing clinic at Gila Health Resources on Saturday, July 25, from 7 – 11 a.m. Organizers request those attending enter through the Family Medicine parking lot.

According to the Arizona Department of Health Services, statewide there were 3,500 new cases reported Monday, with 134 deaths. Arizona has had a total of 148,683 cases since the start of the pandemic and 2,918 deaths.  

The breakdown of positive tests by county include Maricopa County with 98,988, followed by Pima County with 13,848, Yuma County – 9,669, Pinal County – 6,874, Navajo County – 4,877, Apache County – 2,779, Coconino County – 2,745, Santa Cruz County – 2,374, Mohave County – 2,403, Yavapai County – 1,448, Cochise County – 1,287, Gila County – 596, La Paz County – 445, Graham County – 312, and Greenlee County – 39.
