Graham County Health Department releases official statement regarding COVID-19 virus

GRAHAM COUNTY – To all residents of Graham County, the Graham County Health Department would like to share the following:

  • There are currently no confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus in Graham County. Testing is being administered, but all tests that have been completed have returned with a negative result.
  • The testing of patients for COVID-19 in Graham County, through the State Laboratory, is determined by criteria established by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Arizona Department of Health.  Private laboratory testing is available, as well, and individual Health Care Providers determine their criteria for testing.
  •  Individuals who are experiencing flu-like symptoms, or are questioning whether they should seek medical attention, should contact their primary care clinic by phone. We encourage all individuals who believe they could warrant COVID-19 testing to call their physician’s clinic before arriving in person. All primary care clinics in Graham County have instructions for their patients on how to proceed should they be experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID-19.
  • If an individual believes they are experiencing a medical emergency, they should proceed directly to the Emergency Department at Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center or their nearest emergency medical provider. Patients arriving at the Emergency Department should immediately inform hospital personnel of their symptoms consistent with the flu.
  • Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center and Long Term Care Facilities have implemented visitation restrictions to protect our vulnerable populations. 
  • Currently, the Graham Health Department is not testing for COVID-19.
  • The Graham County Health Department is the primary source for information regarding the current status of COVID-19 in Graham County. All media and general inquiries regarding COVID-19 should be directed to the Graham County Health Department.
  • The Graham County Health Department is working closely with Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center and all other Healthcare Providers in the County to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all County Residents.
  • The measures described above have been implemented to ensure that local healthcare providers are not overwhelmed as concerns regarding COVID-19 increase. The County appreciates everyone’s understanding as we work together to protect our community.
  • As a final reminder, the best current defenses against COVID-19 are:
  • 1. Wash your hands and consistently use hand sanitizer.
    • 2. Avoid close contact with others who are sick and maintain distance between yourself and others.
    • 3. If you feel sick, stay home.
    • 4. Clean and disinfect high touch areas in your home and workplace.
