GRAHAM COUNTY – The light can be seen at the end of the tunnel, and while the economic impact from the COVID-19 pandemic is far from over, the number of confirmed active cases is at the lowest point in Graham County in about a year.

On Friday, the Graham County Department of Health and Human Services reported that the county had just 67 confirmed active cases of COVID-19 – the lowest for the county since the end of June 2020.

For the entire course of the pandemic, Graham County has had 5,606 confirmed cases, with 5,456 recovered, 67 active, and 83 deaths. The health department reported six new cases for the week of June 4 – 10, with five from the Thatcher zip code and one from the Safford zip code. Twenty-five cases were taken off Graham County’s total and reallocated to another county.

Restrictions have lessened for those who have received a COVID-19 vaccination, and vaccinated individuals no longer are requested to wear masks at many businesses or functions. The vaccine is available for free, and health experts advise that those who are not vaccinated have a greater chance of contracting the various strains and becoming ill.
