SAFFORD – A gory scene that included a copious amount of blood at the Safford High School Sports Complex was the result of an emotionally disturbed person who had injured himself.
Officers were called to the high school at about 1 p.m. School operation was not disturbed by the event, and school officials were apprised of the situation. The scene was later released by police for decontamination.
According to a Safford Police press release, the man had inflicted significant trauma to his upper extremities. Safford officers and detectives located evidence at the scene that lead them to request video surveillance from local businesses, which identified the male from a previous, unrelated incident.
The evidence at the scene, along with the video evidence confirmed the man was responsible for the blood at the sports complex.
Safford officials were not immediately available for any further details regarding the scene or the man who created it.
