FORT THOMAS – A Globe man was found deceased underneath his all-terrain quad early Saturday morning in the wilderness northwest of Fort Thomas and east of Bylas.

The victim has been identified as Randy Clare Dan Wampole, 55, of Globe. According to Graham County Sheriff P.J. Allred, Wampole was riding his quad recreationally in the Diamond Bar Ranch area near the border with the San Carlos Apache Reservation when he fatally crashed.

The deceased was located at about 8:07 a.m. by some deer hunters in the area. Wampole himself, however, was not deer hunting at the time of his death but was in a remote area.

“From what we understand is, he’s one of them kind of guys who just likes to get on a quad and, yeah, go searching, go looking, look for rocks, whatever,” Allred said. “Just get outside of the town and get out in the hills, I guess.”

Wampole’s sister was located in Wyoming and notified of his passing.
