Girls 48th EA Holiday Tournament continues on Friday

THATCHER – Day Two of the girls’ 48th Eastern Arizona Holiday Tournament has pairings for 11 games at three different sites on Friday, Dec. 20.

An 8-game bracket has Pool A top seed Pima (2-0) versus Pool B second seed Thatcher (1-1) for Game 1 on the Thatcher campus at 10:30 a.m., Pool C top seed Saint David (2-0) vs. Pool D second seed Morenci (1-1) for Game 2 in Safford’s Norma Bellamy Gymnasium at noon, Pool D top seed Fort Thomas (2-0) vs. Pool C second seed Peoria Centennial (1-1) for Game 3 in EAC’s Guitteau Gymnasium at 1:30 p.m., and Pool B top seed Snowflake (2-0) vs. Pool A second seed El Mirage Dysart (1-1) for Game 4 on the Thatcher campus at 1:30 p.m.

The Pima – Thatcher and Saint David – Morenci losers meet in Norma Bellamy Gymnasium for Game 5 at 4:30 p.m., the Fort Thomas – Centennial and Snowflake – Dysart losers for Game 6 on the Thatcher campus at 1:30 p.m., the Pima – Thatcher and Saint David – Morenci winners for Game 7 in Guitteau Gymnasium at 6 p.m., and the Fort Thomas – Centennial and Snowflake – Dysart winners in Norma Bellamy Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m.

The Tigers defeated Centennial 40-33 and Safford 29-23 for the Pool C top seed. Saint David meets Morenci in Safford at noon, and Centennial faces Fort Thomas in Guitteau Gymnasium at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 20.

A 3-game Round Robin meet has Pool A third seed Globe (0-2) vs. Pool B third seed Winkelman Hayden (0-2) in Guitteau Gymnasium at 9 a.m., Pool C third seed Safford vs. Pool D third seed Tucson Empire (0-2) in Norma Bellamy Gymnasium at 9 a.m., Globe vs. Safford on the Thatcher campus at 3 p.m., and Hayden vs. Empire in Guitteau Gymnasium at 3 p.m.

Admission is cashless, with tickets sold exclusively through GoFan. Friday and Saturday has a charge of $10 for a day pass with access to all games at any venue. Saturday admission is $5 per session, the first through 4 p.m. pairings and the second for the championship games beginning at 6:30 p.m. in Guitteau Gymnasium.

This tourney marks the first time 12 teams play two games on the first day at four different sites, 12 teams play two games on the second day at three different sites, and the third time the boys and girls meets occur on the same days and dates, and the 44th year the girls’ tourney is held before Christmas.

Day One – Pool Play Results

Pima (2-0) was first, Dysart (1-1) second, and Globe (0-2) third for Pool A on the Pima campus. The Roughriders defeated Globe 87-7 and Dysart 55-29. Dysart defeated Globe 66-16.

Snowflake (2-0) was first, Thatcher (1-1) second, and Hayden (0-2) third for Pool B on the Thatcher campus. The Lobos defeated Hayden 69-5 and Thatcher 63-21. Thatcher defeated Hayden 45-23.

Saint David (2-0) was first, Centennial (1-1) second, and Safford (0-2) third for Pool C in Norma Bellamy Gymnasium. Saint David defeated Safford 43-31 and Centennial 40-33. Centennial defeated Safford 29-23.

Fort Thomas (2-0) was first, Morenci (1-1) second, and Empire (0-2) third for Pool D in Guitteau Gymnasium. Fort Thomas defeated Empire 78-13 and Morenci 66-16. Morenci defeated Empire 59-25.
