SAFFORD — Communities across the Gila Valley are preparing for a historic Independence Day celebration as residents and visitors gather July 4 for Gila Valley 250, a coordinated series of events commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
The celebration will feature activities throughout Graham County in Safford, Thatcher, and Pima, offering residents multiple opportunities to participate in patriotic traditions, family activities, community service recognition, and fireworks displays. The effort is being coordinated by local governments, community organizations, businesses, and volunteers as part of a valley-wide observance of America’s semiquincentennial.
The event is designed to honor the nation’s founding while celebrating the communities, families, and organizations that continue to shape the Gila Valley today.
Activities throughout the day will include a fishing derby, a complimentary pancake breakfast, community parades, pool parties, a complimentary lunch at the splash pad, a basketball tournament, live music, food vendors, free family activities, and a fireworks display.
The celebration will begin in the early morning hours with family activities and community gatherings, then continue throughout the day with events in multiple communities. Evening festivities will culminate with fireworks displays and live entertainment.

Community members are encouraged to participate in one or more events throughout the day, display patriotic decorations, attend local celebrations, and support participating organizations.
A complete schedule of events, parade information, and activity details is available at www.GilaValley4th.com.
The Gila Valley 250 celebration is made possible through the support of community sponsors, local governments, volunteers, and participating organizations throughout Graham County.
