GRAHAM COUNTY – The Graham County Sheriff’s Office apprehended a Tucson homicide suspect on Nov. 22 after the suspect was spotted by law enforcement.

According to a Graham County Sheriff’s Office release, at about 11 a.m. Luis H. Pina, 33, was seen on a bicycle in the area of Robinson Ranch Road and 8th Street. Pina was wanted for the fatal shooting of Tyler Gonzales, 41, in Tucson on Oct. 26.

Law enforcement investigators found probable cause for Pina’s involvement in the homicide, and a warrant was issued from the Pima County Superior Court on both homicide and robbery charges.

The Sheriff’s Office then received a tip from the Tucson Police Department that Pina may be in the Safford/Thatcher area. Upon his discovery on the bicycle, he was arrested for his warrant, and a handgun was found in his possession. The Thatcher Police Department and the Arizona Department of Public Safety assisted with the arrest.

Pina was then booked into the Graham County Adult Detention Facility on his warrant to await extradition back to Pima County. He was released to Pima County law enforcement on Nov. 27.
