Fort Thomas boys and girls advance to regional basketball championship

FORT THOMAS – The Fort Thomas Apaches boys and girls basketball teams both advanced to the championship game of the 1A East/Copper Basketball Super Regional Tournament on Saturday. 

1A East/Copper Girls Basketball Super Regional Tournament

The No. 4 Apaches’ girls team (8-2 1A Copper, 24-6 overall) is up first and will take on the No. 2 Joseph City Wildcats (10-0 1A Copper, 24-5 overall) in Fort Thomas, starting at 4:30 p.m.

Joseph City will be looking for the trifecta against The Fort, after beating the Apaches 59-53 on Dec. 16, 2022, and 38-37 on Jan. 24.

Fort Thomas advanced to the championship game by defeating Cicero Prep 62-7 in Round 1 on Feb. 2 and Lincoln Prep 52-32 in the semifinals on Friday night.

Joseph City advanced to the championship by defeating PDSD 58-9 in Round 1 and Mogollon 58-51 in the semifinals. 

1A East/Copper Boys Basketball Super Regional Tournament

On the boys’ side, the No. 7 Apaches (8-2 1A Copper, 18-9 overall) will host the No. 6 Hayden Lobos (8-2 1A Copper, 18-5 overall), starting at 6 p.m. to see who is the king of the 1A Copper Region. The teams split the regular season, with Hayden taking the first game 59-52 on Jan. 4 and The Fort taking the second game 78-66 on Jan. 19.  

Fort Thomas advanced to the championship game by defeating Valley Lutheran 65-40 in Round 1 on Feb. 2 and Mogollon 56-49 in the semifinals on Friday night.

Hayden advanced to the championship game by defeating Sequoia Charter 69-40 in Round 1 and Joseph City 52-45 in the semifinals.
