CONGRESS, ARIZ. – Former Solomon resident Greg Hernandez Romero, 33, was arrested and booked into the Camp Verde Detention Center after allegedly stabbing his father to death.

According to a Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) report, Romero’s father, David Romero, 63, and his mother confronted Greg Romero about his drinking when they returned to their home in Congress, Arizona, and discovered him intoxicated the evening of Thursday, July 18.

After throwing his cellphone at his parents, Greg allegedly retrieved two kitchen knives and attempted to attack his mother, according to the police. David Romero intervened, and as the altercation moved from the living room into the kitchen, Greg allegedly fatally stabbed his father in his chest.

Greg then threatened to cut his own throat but his mother fled the residence and flagged down an off-duty deputy with the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, who restrained Greg until backup arrived and took him into custody.

According to the YCSO, the deputy also instructed the mother on how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on her husband, however, David died from his injuries.

Greg was taken to jail and booked on charges of second-degree murder, aggravated assault, and aggravated assault on a police officer.
