THATCHER – Food City invites the public to celebrate with it on Wednesday, Jan. 8, for the store’s official grand opening. The store is at 2323 U.S. Highway 70 and was formerly Bashas’.

The first 150 guests to visit the store after it opens at 6 a.m. will receive a free reusable grocery bag filled with goodies with any purchase. Between 10 a.m. and noon, guests can enjoy free food sampling throughout the store and spin the Food City prize wheel to win a gift card or product. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 11 a.m.

According to the business, “Food City is a Hispanic market, offering aisles of traditional Mexican foods, ingredients, and items found in a conventional grocery store. Specialty offerings include Hispanic pastries and made-in-store tortillas. With a more than 60-year reputation of service to the Hispanic community in Arizona, Food City partners with the community by hiring people from the neighborhoods it serves. The community-focused grocery store holds soccer tournaments, car seat and water safety events, mobile dental clinics, back-to-school immunizations, backpack giveaways, and other cultural celebrations.”

The location opened as a Bashas’ supermarket 31 years ago and has now been converted into a Food City under the Bashas’ Family of Stores. Changes include the addition of six self-checkouts, a remodeled service desk, an expanded produce department, new deli equipment and meats, new bakery cases, and an added tortilla department.

Food City also offers its discount loyalty program called “M Club.” To create a free Mi Club account, visit mifoodcity.com/mi-club from a smartphone, tablet, or computer, and then digitally clip the coupons to use at Food City. From there, scan the Mi Club barcode at the Food City checkout to receive savings on groceries. After signing up for Mi Club, customers will receive emails with more than $25 in savings, including free tortillas and a $5 discount on their next purchase of $25 or more. The emails also provide access to Food City’s weekly ad and about the club deals each week.
