Fire closes U.S. 60 north of Globe

GILA COUNTY – A wildfire dubbed the “Copper Canyon Fire” that started roughly three miles northeast of Globe forced the partial closure of U.S. Highway 60.

According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, the highway closed for both northbound and southbound traffic near milepost 258 prior to 4 p.m., just north of Globe.

U.S. Highway 70, which joins into U.S. Highway 60 in Globe, and U.S. Highway 60 west through the town from that intersection are still open. 

VLAT, engines, and three hand crews are en route to the fire.
