Fatal crash on I-10 closes freeway at Highway 191

COCHISE COUNTY – An early Friday morning fatal crash closed Interstate 10 in both directions near Highway 191.

The crash involved a commercial vehicle carrying hazardous material.

The closure began at around 4:25 a.m. and was still closed as of 9 a.m. Eastbound freeway traffic has been diverted onto U.S. Highway 191 and then onto U.S. Highway 70. Be wary of large vehicles traveling through Safford and Duncan due to the detour. 

There is no timetable for the reopening of the freeway, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. 

Update: The freeway was opened in both directions shortly after 7 p.m.
