EAC’s Repertory Acting Company presents ‘Hear Our Voices: A Personal Examination of Mental Health’

By Jonas Yarbro

THATCHER — EAC’s Repertory Acting Company has spent the entirety of this semester creating a theatrical presentation which dives into the cases of three people who are affected by mental health conditions.

Hear Our Voices will be performed in the Theatre in South Campus Classroom #3 from April 18-21, at 7:30 pm. There will be a 2 p.m. matinee Saturday, April 21. General Admission will be $3 /person. Full-time EAC students will be admitted free with their student ID.

Tickets are available at the EAC Ticket Office at (928) 428-8228 and at the door. Seating is limited and this production’s content deals with serious and emotional topics, we caution the attendance of young children who may not understand or handle the subject matter well.

The members of EAC’s Repertory Acting Company have studied, discussed, and analyzed mental health to be able to present a well-rounded, well-supported, and accurate artistic production. The intent of the production is to identify mental illnesses, expose certain social stigmas revolving around them, and portray ways to view, approach, and navigate mental illness. The vignettes which will be presented have been scripted and directed by members of the Repertory Acting Company. All concepts, sets, characters, props, and cases have been devised collaboratively by the students in this ensemble.

In less than an hour, the audience will be guided through an emotional, factual, and educational journey that observes mental illness and its effect on three people by the names of Tyler, Josie, and Andy. Through artistic displays and realistic scenes exposing accurate perspectives of mental illness, the hope of EAC’s Repertory Acting Company is that the audience will leave feeling educated, emotionally impacted, and have a better understanding of what they can do to seek help or assist those around them who might be suffering from mental illness.

The students in the company have spent many hours emotionally investing themselves into stories which they feel can help an audience be impacted significantly.

“Going through this process has helped me not only grow as a theatre artist but has also opened my eyes to new perspectives concerning individuals struggling with challenged mental health,” said company member Nik Mase.

The Spring 2018 Repertory Acting Company members include Bailey Bickmore, Stuart Kieran, Nike Mase, Mohammed Matalgah, Emily Nagy, Joseph Norton, Rudy Perez, Tiphani Schysm, Angelique Woods, and Jonas Yarbro.
