THATCHER — Eastern Arizona College (EA) Teen Theatre is proud to present its upcoming production: “A Ghastly Game of Murder,” directed by the play’s author, Kathy Hoeft. This dark comedy murder mystery promises an evening of intrigue, laughter, and interactive fun for audiences of most ages.

Set against the backdrop of a dark and stormy night, the play unfolds in a mysterious mansion with five guests. When a murder occurs, the audience is tasked with unraveling the mystery and determining the guilty party. With eight possible endings, each dependent on audience votes, no two performances will be the same.

Directed by Hoeft, the play is a showcase of talent from local area teenagers who are part of EA’s esteemed Teen Theatre Program. Despite its dark themes, including murders and blackmail, the production maintains a PG rating, ensuring it is suitable for most family audiences.

“The show is a dark humor murder mystery farce,” says Hoeft. “It contains many board game and card game references, hence the Monopoly board. At intermission, the audience will be polled on who they think the guilty party is. The ending of the show will depend on who the audience votes for. So far, the cast is having fun with it; hopefully, the audience will too.”

While the play features elements such as a stabbing and plastic guns, these are presented in a light-hearted manner. “The guns are brightly colored squirt guns and nerf guns, adorned with sparkly stick-on jewels,” explains Hoeft. “The murders that occur during Act One all happen during electrical outages, so we don’t see the violence. The alternate endings provide further flexibility, ensuring the performance remains engaging and unpredictable.”
