SAFFORD – An intoxicated woman was given a warning regarding indecent exposure after she was found walking around the area of 8th Avenue and 12th Street while topless Friday, March 29.

The woman, who initially said she was both male and female and did not have any female genitalia, initially refused officers’ requests that she put on a shirt. The reporting party did not wish to pursue charges but just wanted officers to check on the woman’s welfare.

She eventually admitted she was indeed a woman and realized the seriousness of walking around topless after an officer informed her that she could be charged with a felony if a juvenile under the age of 14 reported seeing her in the state of undress. The officer also noted that Lafe Nelson Elementary School was only a few blocks from their location.

The woman then agreed to go get fully dressed and the officer waited until she entered her residence before clearing the area.
